Derwent Junior Common Room

  • Groupsicon

Derwent is a vibrant and lively college set on the lakeside of the Heslington West campus. The college is famed for it’s huge on campus club nights called Club D’s. These happen twice termly and are attended by over 750 students. Derwent is lucky enough to have two bars, Dbar and The Courtyard which, alongside its Junior Common Room, form great social spaces, used by all students. The college sports teams are just as infamous as its event scene, with 15 different college sports teams who compete in cross-college sports leagues and varsity against Durham University every year.
The iconic 60s architecture has a special spot in the heart of every Derwent student and its large social blocks make living in halls even better. Every summer after exams Derwent holds a festival called Big D which has seen huge acts such as Lethal Bizzle, Blonde, Fuse ODG, Chase and Status and Pendulum take to its stages.
While Derwent isn’t the largest college on campus, it certainly has the biggest sense of college spirit and impact on university life. Derwent is not just a home, but the only way to experience York.
