Vanbrugh College Junior Common Room

  • Groupsicon

Vanbrugh College is quietly simply the best college at York. Bit blunt I know, but it needs to be said.

But why?  Well for starters, physically we are the Central College, surrounding the Hes West Lake and containing many of York’s biggest Departments.– Vanbrugh is a melee of new and old so there is something for everyone.

When it comes to sport, Vanbrugh is one of the best and most inclusive, boasting completely free sport and the equipment to get you started. Our teams compete in the college leagues, tournaments and have recently qualified to compete in Roses against Lancaster. For Music, perhaps Vanbrugh shines the most against the other colleges. We have  music facilities open to all students which support choirs, bands and music creators, with a fully equipped garage-band rehearsal space,  and a recording studio. Then on top of all this we at Vanbrugh pride ourselves on our College Bar and our unique events that it provides, notably Jazz Night and Pre @ V.

So check us out and please find out more throughout our website and social media.

Committee info

The Vanbrugh JCRC – the junior common room committee – is your elected body of students who look after your interests in Vanbrugh College. We manage college events, student wellbeing, communications and college societies, as well as representing you within the university.

Our elections run in the first term of the academic year and is your chance to get involved.

Being part of the committee allows you to make change to college and shape the experience of you and your friends have while at university. Recent achievements have been as simple as gaining wheelchair access to the Warren – our college hub – to becoming the most popular accommodation choice at the University of York. In recent years we have focused on making Vanbrugh the most accessible college, being the only college to provide free collegiate sport including signups, equipment and competition fees. The committee also gives you opportunity to be involved in events, from the massive production that is Freshers’ Week to our Formal Dinners to weekly events in our college bar – V Bar.

All of this is planned and run by students of Vanbrugh College, so that we can make our college the best it can be for ourselves and our collegiate family in the central college in York.
