Wentworth College was opened in October 1972 and became the University of York's first Graduate College in 2001.
Wentworth provides accommodation for around 550 residents in 10 on-campus blocks and 3 small off-campus houses, and in addition has well over 2000 non-resident students. The social and study facilities in the College are available to all members and we encourage members living in non-university accommodation to get involved in Wentworth sports teams and the annually elected Graduate Common Room Committee, who run events and activities.
Wentworth is the home of The Edge cafe and bar, which serves some of the best food on campus. The Graduate Students' Association and the department of Sociology are also based here as is the well equipped university art studios, home to the Active Arts Society, which all university members are welcome to join.
As residents live in the college 51 weeks a year, Wentworth never closes! Our Reception is staffed 24 hours a day and members of Wentworth can access the Staff & Graduate Common Room and Graduate-only study space 24 hours a day, all year round. The Edge is also open throughout the vacation period, so the college still has a buzz outside of term-time.
The college has a very diverse membership with the resident population largely from overseas and over 50% of our non-resident community being UK students. Wentworth is keen to be a community which facilitates non-resident and resident members of the college to mix and make the most of the diverse, international nature of the college.
