Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence

If you are a victim of domestic abuse or sexual violence, there is help available to you. The University’s website has some useful information. If there is no immediate threat to you and you wish to talk things over with someone confidentially and/or discuss any options available to you, you can contact:

During office hours-

  • Your College’s Assistant Head, Administrator or a College Tutor

  • The Advice and Support Centre

  • Graduate Students’ Association

Out of office hours, you can contact the Security Office on 01904 323333 and they will contact the trained member of staff on duty.

If the perpetrator is a student, you can report this using the online student misconduct reporting form.

In addition to the support available on campus, there are also some local organisations in York who provide support to victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence:


Independent Domestic Abuse Service

IDAS is a specialist charity that provides comprehensive support services to anyone experiencing or affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence. Their services include refuge accommodation, community based support, peer mentoring, group work and access to a free, confidential 24 hour helpline.

Bridge House Sexual Assault Referral Centre

Bridge House is York’s sexual assault referral centre and offer support, information and advice to those who are victims of sexual assault. They can store evidence and support you in reporting to the police if you wish to do so.
